What is a ceramic coating? Greenville South Carolina
Because we are detailers, we're tempted to get into the nitty gritty of what a ceramic coating is, why it's the 9th wonder of our Greenville auto detailing business, but we don't want to bore you! so lets jump right into it:
Professional grade ceramic coatings should be thought of as adding another clear coat to the paint's surface. Its as it were adding a winter jacket on top of another jacket. It is an extremely hard layer of Silicon Dioxide (glass) that cures to the entire exterior of your vehicle's paint, glass, and other surfaces. This new clear coat as it were is shiny, smooth, and extremely slick and has insane hydrophobic properties that will protect your vehicle from Greenville's and surrounding upstate SC elements and will require less maintenance on your vehicle. All in all, ceramic coatings will do 3 things:
1. Create permanent protection for your vehicle
2. Add Extreme Glossiness
3. Make Washing it Extremely Easy

Why Are Ceramic Coatings So Expensive?
-

Time
It takes time to apply one. Would you believe me that on average it takes around 10 hours to install one??? Well it’s true. Your vehicle is receiving the ultimate spa treatment during those hours.
-

What you’re getting
We’re talking YEARS of protection. Imagine applying your traditional wax. the nano-technology of ceramic coatings far exceed that of your week-end warrior paste wax. This is serious stuff. And when you ever get ready to sell your vehicle it’ll be as if it was never even bought and keeping the trade in value at the highest level.

Step 1: Ceramic Coating Preparation
1. The pre-wash wash: Here we’re be using a foam cannon. Foam cannons help loosen and emulsify and encapsulates dirt making the process of hand washing a vehicle easy and preventing scratches from being it introduced.
2. Traditional car washing: Also called Agitation Wash, you absolutely have to do it if you want ensure a nice clean prior to the next steps. Spraying shampoo on the vehicle and rinsing it off honestly isn’t enough. You may remove very loose surface dirt but you aren’t removing that dusty/foggy dirt that seems etched into the paint.
3. Iron decontamination phase: If you’re not from the detailing world, that phrase means nothing to you. Most people aren’t aware of the tiny contaminants that sit on your car’s paint that are not removed through the washing process. These microscopic contaminants are single handedly responsible for long term paint DAMAGE! We’ve got the chemicals to remove them!
4. Clay barring the paint: After you wash your car… run your hand across the paint. What do you feel? Likely not a smooth surface, but rather a surface that LOOKS CLEAN and yet is bumpy like sandpaper. The clay bar phase of our ceramic coating preparation process allows us to remove any and all of the final contaminants that are embedded in the paint leaving a smooth and glassy surface behind that you’ve likely never felt on your car.
5. Final wipe down & solvent removal stage: This phase is exactly what it sounds like. We use a specific type of chemical that will remove any last minute oils, residues, waxes, or any other chemical that is left on the surface of the paint.
Step 2: Paint Correction & Paint Enhancement
Now it’s time to remove a thin level out of the clear coat and pull out some scratches! Because ceramic coatings are the most durable form of long term paint protection that exists in the detailing world, any little imperfection that is in the paint is there to stay as soon as the coating is applied. Here in Greenville, SC we get heavy rain, tree sap, pollen (SO MUCH POLLEN), bugs, and pretty much anything else you can think of that would damage car paint! And because of that, it’s important that we polish the vehicle prior to the ceramic coating application in order to remove paint imperfections, and have a smooth surface so that the ceramic coating can bond correctly. There are 2 major types of paint correction: Paint Enhancement & Paint Correction. For more information about paint correction click here.
Step 3: Ceramic Coating Application
After all of that work… It's now time to install the ceramic coating. You know how a surgeon goes to school for 8-12 years before they ever cut into an actual person? Most of the work is in the PREP! That is a great way to understand ceramic coatings. While there is a lot of technical skill included in the ceramic coating application… most of the time and labor is done in the preparation! Ceramic coating installations take anywhere from 1 to 3 hours depending on the size of the vehicle, but the preparation takes ALL of the other hours. Depending on the amount of paint correction done, a ceramic coating installation can take somewhere between a single day, and 2 to 3 days to finish.
I hope this sheds a little more light on why ceramic coatings come with this price tag… in addition to having a lifetime protection on your vehicle!!!
“Ivan did an amazing job on my car! He hand washed and used a clay bar to get hidden dirt off on the entire exterior. Later, he vacuumed and meticulously cleaned the interior leaving no stain behind. He also got rid of those annoying coffee stains off my front seats and used a water vacuum to get all the dirt out of the mats. Almost forgot to mention that he will drive to your place to do his job and is also now offering ceramic coatings for those interested!! Highly recommended!!”
“I had Ivan ceramic coat my brand new car about a month ago. Ivan spent a full day cleaning, buffing and applying the ceramic coat. He was very meticulous, detail oriented and professional. The car looked great afterward. I was very happy.....but it was brand a new car and candidly, it looked good before he started.
Before I wrote my review, I wanted to see how the ceramic coating held up on a 3-week, 1500-mile road trip to PA and back, traveling in the July heat, and enduring bugs, road construction, rain, wind, dust storm, etc. Was the ceramic coating worth the cost?
We just got home this weekend and I wiped down the car and frankly I was AMAZED at how good it looked. There were no marks or nicks or anything on the paint. And the bird dirt and bug splatter really wiped off easily. I was told that the ceramic coat really protected the paint surface and now I believe it!! Worth every penny spent.
The combination of great, professional installation and a good product was perfect.
I only wish there was a “ceramic coat” for the inside. I have to give Ivan a call to clean the inside now...
He will be keeping my car in tip-top shape going forward!!”
“So grateful to Ivan for such a wonderful job ceramic coating my vehicle. It looks amazing!
I appreciate him coming to my home in the Vineyards in Sunset.
Ivan is a very hard worker and I highly recommend him.
Thank. You Ivan”
